Hello Families,

The last few weeks of school are flying by! Be sure to check the calendar for all the final events of the year.

Students begin fly fishing lessons this week. See Mr. Sharp’s update for details on this special class, and be sure to prepare your student with weather appropriate gear (rain jackets this week & sunscreen next week)!

Walk & Roll is next Wednesday morning and we’ll meet at the Community Hall to travel by foot & bike to school. To make it easier for everyone to participate (and eliminate the hassle of transporting bikes ahead of time) students can walk to school from the Hall. We will travel together as a group, using our own human power for transportation! More details below.

Update from Mr. Sharp

Principal Message

We are planning to take each class to the youth fishing pond near school for fly fishing lessons. This week we’ll start with Rose Hips and next week Blue Bay & Green Ridge will get their turn.

Students will spend an afternoon at the pond learning the basics of fly fishing and trying to land a big one for themselves. We have fly rods that were loaned to us by Kathy at the Camp Sherman store and Luke at the Fish Hatchery. Students are welcome to bring their own rods and flies on the day they fish as well. The dates are:

Thurs May 28- Rose Hips fishing

Tues June 2- Blue Bay fishing

Thurs June 4- Green Ridge fishing

I could use some extra volunteer helpers those days if you are interested. Please reach out to me (Delaney) if you are available any of those days as a volunteer. Also, let me know if you have any questions about this unique class.

Field Studies

In Field Study class we are nearing the end of our Food and Farming unit. Students will spend the next couple weeks working on comparing and contrasting different approaches to growing food. We also are now growing our own micro greens which we will harvest and enjoy the last week of school.

PE/Health Class

In P.E. class we spent the past week playing frisbee and disc golf. The students are getting pretty good with the discs and are ready to play a real game this summer if anyone gets a chance.

Next up is fly fishing.

Update from Mr. Sump

Blue Bay

In Humanities, Blue Bay students have started to read and learn about the Incan empire. Students are also gearing up for an end of the year Grammar final test this Friday. They have a parts of speech packet they have been adding to all year that they can reference as a study guide this week. In addition, the students have been learning about latitude/longitude and have a homework assignment due this Friday to prepare for their quiz.

In Math, students have been proceeding with their grade level goals. 4th graders are finishing up with equivalent fractions, and 5th graders are wrapping up with adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. 6th graders are wrapped with equations and are working on inequalities. 7th graders are still plugging away at multi-step equations, basically pre-algebra. Our 8th grader is continuing his unit on functions. This Thursday and Friday, Blue Bay students will be taking the end of the year i-ready district assessment. I am looking forward to seeing all the growth scores in reading and math over the course of the school year and sharing that data with families!

Update from Ms. Kassie

Rose Hips

We are so close to wrapping up this year. Students have been showing great growth and although it can be hard for them to see, we have been focusing on how we learn a bit step by step each day. We will start looking back at some of work from earlier this year and work will start coming home. Take a look at all they have learned. To keep them engaged with their learning over the summer make sure to look into the library program and let me know if you have any questions. Also, next week I will send some ideas for activities to do over the summer.

Rose Hip & Green Ridge Science

We did a model drawing of our water cycle and focused on how that is so important for nature and our food systems.
