Hello Families,
Students had fun today in an abbreviated Halloween party, showing off costumes and playing games like wax museum. Thanks to the PTO for handing out goody bags, including glow sticks to use while trick or treating!
If you ordered school pictures, the prints are ready for pick up. Look for your envelope in the front hallway when you come in for conferences.
Thanks to everyone who has signed up on the 2026 Winter Volunteer Sign Up. There are many slots open; please take a look and add your name for a shift or two.
Wishing you all a safe and fun Halloween weekend!

Update from Mr. Sharp
Principal Message
It is hard to believe it is already the end of October and time for Halloween. We are enjoying some fun costumes and Halloween themed fun at BBS today (Wednesday) before students head off for a 4-day weekend. The teachers will still be here the rest of this week meeting with families and sharing updates on how the first quarter of the school year is going and what might be in store for our students the rest of the year.
Here are a few other highlights from the past week:
- Had a beautiful final field trip of the fall last Friday to the Oregon Badlands.
- We are watching our salmon eggs closely and getting excited for them to hatch soon.
- We tested all the students’ hearing this week. If you don’t hear anything from me that means your child passed the hearing screening and can in fact hear what you and their teachers are saying.
- We learned to play badminton in P.E. We have also been trail running and are planning to attend the tiny school track meet in May this year. More details to come.
Have a great Halloween and remember to set your clocks back this weekend.

Update from Mr. Sump
Blue Bay
Blue Bay students are continuing their studies of the Byzantine Empire and by doing reading comprehension exercises, and are beginning to take a deep dive into the Hagia Sophia which will lend itself to a major art project that starts next week. Can you say paper mache architecture?! They ended a short week this week by taking a math quiz. 5th graders battled with decimals, place value, and base ten operations. 6th graders tested their geometry mettle by finding the area of quadrilaterals and triangles.
In Science, students got a chance to practice what they have learned about food chains by playing a card game called eat or be eaten! They are applying their knowledge of at-risk animal populations and learning about data collection by rearing Chinook Salmon fly from eggs at school, and using temperature readings to predict the hatch and release time. In a matter of weeks, the students will release the salmon fry into the Metolius River!
Please encourage your child to spend 20-30 min per day reading at home. 6th graders are reading Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White (read through Chapter 8 by Monday), and 5th graders should each have an assigned OBOB book that they read at their own pace. Have a great weekend and happy Halloween!
