Welcome to the 26/27 school year at BBS! It was great to see all the kids smiling faces yesterday as we kicked off another year. The staff have been busy planning all kinds of fun and engaging learning experiences this year and it was exciting to get the ball rolling.

We enjoyed getting to engage with many of you at our back to school kick off yesterday. If you were unable to make it I shared with the group the importance of great attendance, clear communication, and some protocols for after school pickup to make sure our loading area is safe.

For the pickup we want parents to park between the bus barn and the bus and walk over to Molly or myself to pass off care of your child. We are trying to avoid any kids walking near cars/road without an adult. We have a great group of kids this year and it is shaping up to be another awesome year at BBS.

This first week we spend a lot of time setting up routines and expectations with the students. This is a great opportunity to check in at home with your child about the family routines and expectations.

Let us know if there are any topics that you want to discuss early in the year so we can work together to best support your child. Thanks for all you did to get your kids ready for school this year and we look forward to working with your family in the coming months.

We are off and running on the 2026/27 school year!

Yesterday, the Blue Bay classroom welcomed a new student and seven returning students. This year, the upper grades classroom at BBS is a 5th/6th grade mix. This week, we have been setting expectations and developing our routine as we begin again.

Students have a light amount of homework this week, but there is some:

Reading their class book – 1 chapter per night (Scat by Carl Hiaasen)
Finish filling out Multiplication Table (Due tomorrow)
Studying for their first spelling test (Friday)

It was nice seeing families yesterday and meeting a few new faces. Thanks for being part of the BBS family, we are stoked on the learning journey ahead of us!

We are off to a great start with students who are prepared and excited for the year. Please review the information I went over yesterday, as I know I shared a lot and not everyone could make it. Let me know what needs clarification.

Purple Folders- For returning Rose Hips, please either send back your purple folder if you have it. I will start handing out new folders next week for those who need it.

• Second grade homework will start next Monday. It will be due on Thursday and that will be the plan for the entire year, unless it is a shortened week.
• For all Rose Hips, plan to see finished work coming home about once a week. This is work to review together at home for students to “show off” all they have learned. Nothing needs to come back unless otherwise noted (or is 2nd grade Saxon Math homework).

Thank you for working hard to get into the back to school rhythm. It is a lot and please give yourself and the kiddos some extra rest time this weekend. Take care! 

A remarkable start to our 2026-2027 school year!

Green Ridge students voted on folder colors for two subjects today:

• Teal folders for MATH
• Red (more like scarlet) folders for LITERACY

Yay for democracy!

We also started working on a favorite writing exercise. It is called Making It Strange. Ask your student how a calendar is like a mirror!

• Literacy 8:15 – 9:45
• Math 10:30 – 11:45
• Science / Social Studies (Tuesday & Thursday) 1:00 – 2:50
• Tuesday & Thursday offer Quiet Study (12:35 – 1:00). This is a solo work time unless otherwise stated.
