Principal Message
We are wrapping up an 11 week winter season at BBS before we head out to spring break next week. It has been a busy winter with lots of great stuff happening at BBS. Hopefully everyone enjoys a short break and gets a chance to recharge before our spring season. It will only be 10 weeks of school once we return so encourage your kids to come back and give great effort to finish the year strong.
We are talking to students about emergency preparedness this week and going over Standard Response Protocols (SRP) with each class in an age appropriate way. We will practice more of these protocols in the spring.
Please see this handout for details on our Standard Response Protocols. These are research-based best practices for how to handle emergency situations in schools and are used in many schools across the nation. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Field Studies
In Field Study class we are slowly wrapping up our Astronomy unit. We aren’t quite able to finish before break so we will spend this week putting together a study guide and plan to have our unit test when we return.
PE/Health Class
In Health we are finishing up our health curriculum before break. I am spending time this week going over our Standard Response Protocol (SRP). This is a protocol and language for how we respond to emergencies at school. With our updated security features we are working on adding in more training and practice to make sure we are doing all we can to keep our school safe for kids and families.
Please see this handout for details on our Standard Response Protocols. These are research-based best practices for how to handle emergency situations in schools and are used in many schools across the nation. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Blue Bay
In Humanities, Blue Bay students have been researching a particular god or goddess from Greek mythology, and will be presenting their slideshow they made to the class tomorrow morning! It is always a great day to be a teacher, I am excited to learn lots about Greek mythology tomorrow. We have been working on Greek root words, did an activity surrounding the Greek alphabet, and they have been studying the countries of Europe. Thanks for reminding your child to read their nightly chapter in their book, and study up for their quizzes tomorrow (Greek Root Words and Europe Countries).
In Math, Blue Bay students have been plugging along with their respective units in their grade groups. 4th graders are working on lines, angles and shapes. 5th graders are working with dividing and multiplying mentally using estimation and place value skills (count the zeros or decimal places). 6th graders are taking a step back to work on their arithmetic skills of decimal multiplication and long division without a calculator. 7th graders are beginning a unit on integers, operations that include positive and negative numbers. Our 8th grader is working on multiple step equations, basically pre-algebra. Everyone is looking forward to a well deserved break! Enjoy it!
Update from Ms. Kassie
Rose Hips
We had an exciting St. Patrick’s Day in our classroom. If your student didn’t tell you about all the things that happened, ask them what the classroom looked like when they came to school. 😉
In math we have been working with 2-digit numbers and will continue to work with these for most of the year. In literacy we have been working with the schwa sound where vowel sounds are “weaker” and make the /uh/ or /ih/ sounds. Like in lemon and panda.
Games to try at home:
- Math- We have started jumping rope and counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, starting at different numbers
- Literacy- Have students listen for the “schwa” sounds in names- like in Sofia, and Carson
Rose Hip & Green Ridge Science
In science we have continued to work with material magic. Students are exploring how people make cities out of mud by setting up models of different soil types. Ask students where Ms. Kassie built a mud house.
