Update from Mr. Sharp
Principal Message
We wrapped up our Ski and Ride program this past week with a great final day and pizza party. We all got to do a run together as a whole school. This was an exciting chance for our newer skiers and snowboarders to show off their huge growth this season. We are so grateful that we were able to get up there as much as we could this winter despite the low snow pack. 53 years and counting of Ski and Ride and we should be able to keep it going for many years to come.
Field Studies
We are getting close to the end of our Astronomy unit in Field Study class. We learned about black holes this week which generated a lot of interesting discussion. The students were disappointed to learn that at this point we don’t have evidence that black holes are worm holes to other dimensions or points in time. It still makes for a great sci-fi story though. I also sent the students home with a star map for March 2026. If we get a clear night this month it could be fun for them to go outside when it gets dark and try using it for star gazing. Jupiter is a fun feature to look for this time of year.
PE/Health Class
In Health class all the groups are still working on different topics. The K-1 class is learning about emotional regulation. Rachel and I also spent some time last class talking about personal boundaries and safe vs. unsafe touch. The 2-3 graders are learning about germs, viruses, and what makes us sick. The 5-8 graders learned about the reproductive system this week. We are trying to cover as many health standards as possible before spring break so we can go back to outdoor P.E. in April.
Update from Mr. Sump
Blue Bay
In Humanities, Blue Bay students have been studying Ancient Greece by reading Black Ships Before Troy, or The Wanderings of Odysseus. They had a map/comprehension assignment this week on the Ancient Greek Geography. If they don’t have it turned in yet, they can bring it to their parent/teacher conference for partial credit! They are choosing a god or goddess to do a slideshow presentation next week, and they have all made flash cards to help them prepare for their test next week on Greek Root Words!
In Math, Blue Bay has been hard at work, with our 8th grader taking his test on Linear Relationships, which includes lots of graphing, equations, and calculating slope. Our 4th graders took their multiplication and division test today, and our 7th graders did their percentages test as well. We are wrapping up units and trying to cover the major components of their curriculum as the three month clock starts ticking toward the end of the school year already. 5th grade and 6th grade are continuing along with their decimal operations work and base ten skills.
In Buddy Time, we did a treasure hunt style activity in which buddy pairs hid an item for another buddy pair to find, and wrote up a series of clues to try and get them to find it. It was a lot of fun and they worked on clear written communication, creativity, and whimsical language.
Today we had our whole school OBOB assembly, which was a huge success. We recognized the status of the 6th-8th grade team, who won 2nd place in the Jefferson County Tournament, and is competing in the Regional Tournament this Saturday. The main event today was for the 3rd-5th grade team, who presented posters on their favorite books and competed in a Battle of the Books style Jeopardy challenge as one whole team, with a group goal. They reached their group goal, and showcased their hard work and got to show off their literature comprehension skills to the whole school and their parents. Big shout out to all the parent leaders involved with OBOB this school year, namely Emma Prescher, Sarah Ferguson, Jennie Sharp, and Jessica Lyons. We appreciate all your hard work and dedication to the process.

Rose Hips
I am so excited to meet with all of you and share what we have been working on in class. Thank you for making the time!
Rose Hip & Green Ridge Science
Students worked on building houses out of paper this week, seeing how they can change the properties of paper to make it stronger. They built tall and strong towers from just note cards and paper clips. Also stop by at conferences to check out the finished quilt from our art unit. It is hanging on the Rose Hip room door.
