Hello Families,

After the fun and excitement of last week’s activities the whole school is reunited and getting back to normal routines. Mosaic workshop pictured above; students will take home their mosaics tomorrow.

The PTO has organized a wonderful Staff Appreciation Week filled with the “gift of time” (recess & lunch duty) and yummy treats, including an all-staff lunch today. Thank you so much volunteers!

Be aware it is tick season and it’s important to check your child for ticks every day! We have found one at school this week.

Our new upper grade teacher Killian is looking for housing in Camp Sherman an open to a temporary rental. See the flyer below and spread the word to your neighbors.

      Update from Ms. Steele

      Administrators (5th-8th)

This week the students have been completing state testing from 8:15 to 9:45 and working on math and an essay about San Francisco during the block between the two recesses.  There are quite a few illnesses going around the school, so keep up with the hand washing.

Next Tuesday we are going to “The Happy Trails Horse Rescue” for a few hours of volunteering.  It would be great if everyone could bring a bike helmet.  That way, we may be allowed closer to the horses.

      Update from Ms. Kassie

      K-1 Literacy & Math

Tick check time! Students have found ticks on their clothes coming in from recess. Please do a good tick check each evening.

In literacy we have been learning about the 3 sounds the suffix ed can make. Ask your students what the sounds are and what are the rules for them. In math we have moved into a shapes unit. We are learning about the different properties of shapes.

      • K-1 Literacy and Math Work and Play to try at home
        • Literacy- Find words with the suffix ed. Ask students to find the root word and decide which sound the suffix will make.
        • Math- Have students identify shapes around them using their math names like sphere for a call, cylinder for a can.
      K-2 Science

In science we have started a history unit. Ask students what history is. Then tell them something from your family’s history.

      Update from Mr. B

Due to state testing, some of the beboppers are working on literacy with Ms. Kassie and all are receiving a mashup of math and literacy with Mr. B for the week.

Mr. B hopes to start the class trickster tale next week and is excited to showcase it during the Spring Program.

      Art Literacy

In art literacy, all grades are exploring value with art pencils (4H-6B) and wrapping up some older work Mr. B hopes to display!

      Update from Mr. Sharp

      Field Studies (3rd-8th)

We made it back from an amazing week in San Francisco last week. Hopefully you have heard some of the stories of our adventures from the kids. It was a huge adventure with too many highlights to list here. The kids really stepped up to the challenge and stayed positive throughout. We are so grateful to our school community for supporting us on the journey. It took many hands and many hours to get the 17 of us to the big city. We wouldn’t have been able to pull it off without the support back home.

This week we got back to our native plant studies in Field Study class. We are learning about flowers and pollinators now that they are both active and out in the forest. On Friday we are heading to Lake Creek Lodge to monitor some of the restoration efforts there in the service of bringing beavers back into the Metolius basin.

      PE/Health Class

In P.E. class we took one more round through our disc golf course yesterday. Next up is getting the lacrosse sticks out and learning to throw and catch with those.
