Update from Mr. Sharp
Principal Message
We have parent teacher conferences coming up in mid March. Keep an eye out for an email from myself or a teacher to schedule a time for your conference. If you are unable to meet on March 12th or 13th we can also find a time after school on another day in March.
Field Studies
We went out for another great Field Study walk last Friday. We hiked along the river and did some water coloring. This week we learned about asteroids in class. This included a conversation about the meteor that killed the dinosaurs.
PE/Health Class
Each group was on a different topic in Health class. K-1 students started learning about empathy, 2-3 graders engaged in a great conversation about bullying, our 4-8 grade students learned about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Make sure to check in with your child about these important health topics.
Update from Mr. Sump
Blue Bay
In Humanities, Blue Bay students have formulated outlines for their journalism articles and have begun working on their hand-written rough drafts. They have all received a yellow Ancient China review sheet, which is important information that they have been absorbing from a variety of sources, all located in one place. They will take a test on Ancient China on Monday, and can use the review sheet to study in preparation. Students have been continuing their “punctuation education” and will take yet another quiz on comma use tomorrow.
In Math, Blue Bay students have been busy. Most of our students are through with the middle of the year i-ready diagnostic, and are back to their grade-level studies. 7th graders just took a test on Circles, and are on to Percentages. 6th graders are wrapping up Percentages and are taking a test on Monday. Our 4th and 5th graders did a math challenge today that involved recognizing patterns and using linking cubes to build the next shape in the pattern. They used calculations, engineering strategies, and teamwork to solve problems as a group.
Update from Ms. Kassie
Rose Hips
We had our first day of a full Rose Hip class in the month of February! It was great to have the whole class here. Please do your best to keep kiddos at school and healthy.
We will be doing conference sign ups shortly. We have Thursday and Friday March 12th and 13th off of school for conferences. That being said, I am happy to meet with you whenever around that week that is best for your family. Please look for emails going out in the next week.
In math we have started to deep dive into place value. In literacy we are starting open syllables.
Games and activities to try at home:
- Math – Have students notice numbers around them and tell you how many hundreds, tens, and ones are in a number.
- Literacy– Have students play with changing open syllable words into close and the other way around even if it is nonsense words. (be vs bed, mud vs. mu, hi vs hip)
- Screen Time– Some have reached out about getting I-ready login. This is not required at all. It is just if screen time is part of your student’s home time and if you/they want to try it at home. Let me know if you have questions.
Rose Hip & Green Ridge Science
Students are working on their final project for the class “mural/quilt”. It is good to have students work on slowing down and putting detail into their pictures and artist statements. Ask your student about their focal image and artist statement.
Update from Mr. B
Green Ridge
Green Ridge Math: We are wrapping up our work on partitioning rectangles into squares and will start learning how to write equations to show the number of objects in an array.
Green Ridge Literacy: We will start reading words with lesson common vowel teams and complete an interpretive art activity in response to our reading of The Stories Julian Tells.
***Previously absent students have make-up work to complete tonight.
