Hello Families,

Students had a great time exploring the Sunriver Observatory and Nature Center on Tuesday. Ask them about the wildlife they observed and things they learned on the field trip.

We have several students and staff out sick this week. Please be cautious with sending your child to school if they appear to be under the weather, as we work to contain the spread of illness.

Reminder that the Lake Creek bridge is closed this week and possibly into next week. The detour is well marked with road signs and a map is below.

Read on for news & updates.

Update from Mr. Sharp

Principal Message

Thank you everyone for being flexible this week with some of the changes. We had the bridge closed and a field trip to adjust to. We have been dealing with illnesses passing through students and staff as well. Please be cautious sending your kid to school while sick right now as we work to contain the spread of germs. We also have been waiting to see if we will be skiing/snowboarding again soon. We just heard the official word- Hoodoo is closed for the time being. At this point that means we will have a normal school day at BBS on Friday.

We had a great field trip yesterday at the Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory. We learned from their educators about the stars and our solar system. We got to observe the sun through some of their telescopes (with special filters). We also saw a lot of wildlife and enjoyed some beautiful weather. I would definitely recommend a family trip to the observatory if you ever get a chance.

Field Studies

In Field Study class we took a walk to the youth fishing pond on Monday afternoon to release the rainbow trout fry. We are planning to get another batch of eggs this week to raise and will do a second release at the end of this month.

PE/Health Class

In health class we are focusing on social health lately. We are having some great discussions about empathy, friendship, and social skills (like listening!). Developing healthy relationships is a huge part of growing up and we are working hard to support our students in their efforts to build a positive social environment around them.

Update from Mr. Sump

Blue Bay

In Humanities, Blue Bay students have been continuing their study of ancient China and have multiple reading comprehension and research assignments that were due today. Help your kiddo get ready for the spelling test on Friday by quizzing them their Vocabulary List #14. They compared their first hand drawn world map (by memory) with a real map, and made some notes about what they did well and what they could change/add for next time. Overall, I was very impressed with these students’ original maps. In our grammar studies, we are bringing our focus back to commas, and the students will have another quiz on comma usage on Friday.

In Math, Blue Bay students have been continuing their studies within their respective grade level. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders have tests coming up on Friday. Additionally, each student has been chipping away at their ‘middle of the year’ Math i-ready diagnostic at their own pace.

In Art, students worked on line drawing skills, and practiced expressing feelings (physical, emotional) through drawing. During Buddy Time this week, each pair came up with an original story about a trout and shared it within a small group. This took place on our walk to release our trout fry into the Metolius Youth Angling Pond on Monday.

Update from Ms. Kassie

Rose Hips have been with substitutes this week (including Ms. Tammy & Ms. Kirstin) reviewing past work and using the computers for their I-ready diagnostics.

Rose Hip & Green Ridge Science

We had one Science class this week which Ms. Rachel taught. Students read a book about quilts to help them prepare for their final project.
